(vo) Blues aus Österreich spielte bisher in meinem Blues-Konsumleben auch eine gewisse Rolle, da ich in den 2000er und 2010er Jahren die Ehre hatte etliche Bluessendungen im Internet zu kreieren und zu betreuen, da gab es denn auch Stoff von Bands und Musikern aus unserem südlichen Nachbarland, u.a. Mojo Blues Band, Peter Garstenauer, Al Cook, Ostbahn Kurti, Christian Dozzler. Heutzutage habe ich das Vergnügen euch Konsumenten unseres Blogs das Duo Samsara Joyride aus Wien vorzustellen. Ihre EP mit fünf Songs im gehobenen Längebereich, mit Gesellschaftskritischen Texten (siehe weiter unten) erschien im Dezember.Nun denn, frisch ans Werk Herr Rezensent: Der Albumsound ist „alt“, klingt nach früheren Zeiten, gut so und entstand, mit nur einem Mikro aufgenommen, im Wohnzimmer von Gitarrist Michael. Nur der Schlagzeugsound stammt vom Kanadier Jordan McQueen, da die beiden Samsara Musiker keinen geeigneten Schlagwerker fanden.

„16 District Blues“ ist ein akustisch-elektrischer Blues mit sehr geschmackvollen, elektrischen Gitarrenausflügen, die akustischen Saiteneinheiten bestimmen unterdessen den Rhythmus. Gefallen finde ich auch an den gut abgehangenen Gesangsstimmen, auch bei den folgenden Songs.

„Shadow Of A Man“: Bluesrock mit einem leicht düsteren Touch, geschmackvoll arrangiert, in etwa vergleichbar für mich mit den Mississippi Mudsharks, die diesen Touch auch verinnerlichten. Zwischendurch wird aber mal fetzig treibend abgeledert bis wieder Ruhe einkehrt zum Outro hin.

„Why I Play The Blues“: ein wunderbarer „Schleicher“ bei dem der Teufel ein gehöriges Wort mitspricht. Und wie beim ersten Song Rhythmus mit Akustischer und Saitenausflüge mit der elektrischen, kein Ego-Gefrickel, immer sehr schön songdienlich, prächtiger Stoff.

„Stranger“: der großartigste der fünf großartigen Songs für mich. Sehr düsterer Touch, den ich sowieso im Blues über alles schätze (Mississippi Blues der Kimbroughs und R.L.Burnsides z.B.), ich könnte aber auch das Wort „Stonerblues“ für diesen Song benutzen, das trifft es am besten. Geiler Stoff!

„Safe & Sound“: wunderbarer laid back Blues, mit herrlich fraulichem Backgroundgesang, der wunderbar mit der männlichen Stimme korrespondiert. Der Sound besitzt für mich auch ein bißchen Santana und Mark Knopfler Gitarren Flair.

Ich möchte doch sehr hoffen das die beiden mit ihrem dazugestoßenen Bassisten dazu kommen, eine komplette LP/CD zu produzieren, genug Material ist wohl vorhanden. Hört euch die Songs auf Bandcamp an, ladet sie runter und verbreitet sie in dieser Zeit, in der die meisten von uns den Blues haben…(volker)
